Dominican Republic, Haiti, JamaicaIn the Caribbean, island nations are largely dependent on energy imports, including oil. This dependence leads to higher energy costs, reduced competitiveness, price fluctuations, reduced energy security, and often an unreliable energy infrastructure. Dependence on foreign fossil fuels also leads to high greenhouse gas emissions. The project goal is to work with the local governments, business leaders, utilities, academia, and civil society groups to develop low-carbon strategies for the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Haiti. The project will include renewable resource assessments and mapping, technical, social and economic assessments, and a full-scope policy analysis of potential renewable energy zones and energy efficiency projects. The project will develop and communicate low-carbon strategies in climate vulnerable countries (Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Haiti) via renewable resource and energy efficiency assessments, research, evaluation of technological and economic issues, and analysis of policies. Final product are policy roadmaps for decision makers with specific steps to implement. GermanyGreater Antilles of the Caribbean Worldwatch InstituteMitigation 1.351EUR201311/2010-01/2013

ThailandThis project aims to create a cost effective, high resolution forest carbon basemap as the Thai Government's inventory and put into place a credible, transparent carbon monitoring system for REDD+. Capacity-building and the development of a sub-national pilot project design document will contribute to Thailand's ability to design and benefit from a range of new carbon financing mechanisms and to better understand how co-benefits are identified, measured and monitored. A structured experience-sharing programme will ensure that insights from the project contribute to regional uptake of forest carbon conservation and financing mechanisms. The proposed project activities will establish a solid foundation of policy and technical expertise and will facilitate Thailand becoming a technology and training hub for regional forest monitoring and conservation.Germany  World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) - Germany REDD1.700EUR201208/2011-08/2014

ParaguayThe Atlantic Forest, Pantanal and Chaco Ecoregions are threatened by increasing land conversion, especially the conversion of forest due to growing soy production and livestock breeding. Working with Paraguayan government and local communities at the national, sub national and site level, this project will provide the necessary capacities to protect and enhance forest and high carbon stock areas and at the same time support ecosystems and social benefits in the key biodiversity areas. The focus is set on development and testing of bottom-up tailor-made REDD+ projects for local communities and indigenous people. All activities will be carried out in close cooperation with governmental institutions and civil society organizations and will be integrated into the development of the national REDD+ strategies and programmes. Philippines, TurkeyThe project will establish country specific Low Carbon Plans (LCP). These LCPs will be the basis to create momentum for the uptake of mitigation and adaptation targets and measures in government policies and programmes as well as by civil society, and the business sector. The LCPs will start from emission reduction targets set for 2050, and will analyse all relevant sectors, taking into account carbon emissions, efficiency potential, policy options, drivers of and barriers to change. The LCPs will deliver recommendations on the policies and actions necessary to acchieve these ambitious emission reductions. National research institutes in the respective countries plus Germany will work together closely. The project will thus further knowledge exchange and transfer.Germany  World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF)Mitigation 0.518EUR201304/2012-09/2013

Developing countries will be required to measure, report, and verify mitigation actions according to international guidelines, but few have the capacity to do so. The goal of this project is to build the capacity of a set of countries both to inform the design of those guidelines and to implement them at the national level. Our approach will be to define the features of a robust national MRV system; map current national and sectoral systems against those features; engage policy-makers (“top-down”) as well as the private sector and civil society (“bottom-up”) in national stakeholder groups to understand national needs and inform the design of national systems; and build capacity and support in key corporate sectors and civil society to adopt and implement national MRV systems. This "top-down - bottom-up" approach should not only assist in getting guidelines and standards in place, but also build support for the implementation of such guidelines.GermanyGlobal World Resources InstituteMitigation 4.000EUR201301/2011-12/2014

ESMAP assists low- and middle-income countries to promote environmentally sustainable enery solutions for poverty reduction and economic growth. ESMAP offers pre-investment activities such as analytical and advisory activities, studies, pilot projects, conferences, trainings and workshops, but not investments themselves. A priori the potential of investements are analysed, while ex post best practices are gathered, evaluations are undertaken and knowledge is transferred.LithuaniaGlobal World BankAdaptation 0.020EUR20132010
